Nice to meet you. Do you come here often?
Happy Valentines Day to all three of our blog visitors! Today we'll be discussing one of the most important parts of a project-- the "kickoff" call where everyone meets each other and learns what needs to be done. The following describes what questions we like to ask prospective clients about their projects before they sign on the dotted line.
Why does using a questionnaire matter?
I'm going to let you in on a secret. I low key hate doing phone calls. I don't think this is unique or uncommon but I just wanted to get it out there. I especially hate doing multiple phone calls because I didn't get the information I needed the first time-- and I imagine this is doubly true for my clients, who are, you know, busy running their actual business.

By having a simple list of pre-made questions ready to go, I'm saving valuable time for myself and my client. Furthermore, by having a clear view of everything that's required at the start of the project, we're able to set expectations: We will create x thing, by y date, for z cost. This approach prevents a lot of headaches and ensures that the client-developer relationship is successful.
Of course, some of the questions may change based on the project. For small "brochure" style sites, asking ALL of these questions may be overkill. Or in the case of clients working in niche industries who have extremely specialized requirements, we may need to tailor our questions to their specific use case. But as a rule, this client questionnaire works well to get us started in the right direction.
